What is Park City Performance Medicine?

Park City Performance Medicine is highly personalized human performance program administered by Russ Reiss, MD, a licensed and board certified physician & cardiac surgeon. His mission and goal is to maximize peak performance in all aspects of your life.  Although Park City Performance Medicine uses athletic activity as a core pillar to longevity and great health, it is much more then a sports oriented clinic. We are highly focused on how you are performing in all aspects of your life, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, both at work and at play. On the trail, in the boardroom, or in the bedroom, everyone wants to perform at their peak and Dr. Reiss and his staff work with you to get you there. 

Is this concierge medicine?

Although we provide direct care services like many concierge doctors, we consider ourselves a boutique Performance Medicine practice that specializes in disease prevention by maximizing cardiac health and human performance. Concierge and Direct Primary Care (DPC) physicians are mainly "sick care" doctors who charge you for "access" and see you when you are not feeling well. In contrast, we want to see you when you are healthy and work on getting you healthier.

We also provide ongoing Human Performance Care , Executive Retreats, Life Coaching and VIP services that concierge and DPC doctors do not.  So, although we can help you navigate a variety of medical issues that arise while you are enrolled in our membership, we are focused on keeping you at your highest performance. 

Does Park City Performance Medicine accept insurance or Medicare?

Our Executive Performance Medicine membership services are much more comprehensive then an average primary care office visit for which a typical insurance company might cover. Our philosophy and focus is on “prevention and performance care," not sick care. Unfortunately, insurance does not pay for much of what we do however, in many cases, we can assist you in how to use your Health Saving Account (HSA) for our services.

Importantly, we want to work for you, not your insurance company who often undervalue our care and discount your health. The more time we spend dealing with insurance companies the less time we have to spend helping you. We have no interest in having third parties dictate any part of your experience. This also helps us keep our staffing requirements at a minimum and lower our overhead so we can pass additional savings along to you. 

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed for individual services or to enroll in one of our packages, however you will need to fill out some paperwork. 

Should I keep my health insurance policy?

Yes, you still need insurance in case you are admitted to the hospital, need to see a "sick care" provider or fall ill requiring catastrophic payment. We recommend you keep good, high deductible health insurance for you and your family.

What is your billing policy?

Unless there is a pre-arranged agreement through your employer, Executive Memberships fees can be paid monthly or at a discounted rate per annum. For Regenerative Medicine and one time services, full payment is required the day of service. We accept personal checks, cash, and credit cards. Because many of our tests and procedures are preventive in nature or related to increasing human and athletic performance, their costs are often not covered by insurance. Our staff can give you the necessary information to file an insurance claim or help you use your Health Savings Account (HSA).

How come you don’t endorse or sell vitamins and supplements?

We are not big believers in taking a lot of supplements and vitamins, at least at this time. Instead, we believe that a healthy diet and regular exercise will take the place of 99% of today’s supplements and vitamins on the market. A good active routine and a high quality daily multi-vitamin is often all that is needed, even for our elite athletes. We believe in optimal nutrition. With some of todays products blurring the line between food, fuel, and supplements, our staff is constantly evaluating new products and ways to achieve maximal performance. Once we find something that works then, and only then, do we let you know about it.

What else is there to do if I want to stay longer in Park City?

Park City is one of the most beautiful places on earth, hence why we live here. There is so much to do we can’t list it all here and we encourage you to stay longer. Imagine having immediate access to 3 major ski resorts with over 200 miles of year round trails. What should I bring with me when I visit?

Exercise gear (sport specific) including helmet, gloves, shoes or boots, sunglasses or goggles, a hydration pack and sunscreen. Casual comfortable street clothes work best for just hanging around town in Park City. A camera or a smart phone to take pictures and document your experience in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains.
